We all have dreams we wish we could accomplish. Whether its traveling the world, being the CEO of an inspired business, or starting a loving family. Whatever it is you want to do, it won’t just happen on command, you’ll have to work for it. Going into the New Year make a vow to yourself to work harder, and stat working on actively chasing your dreams. Here are some tips on how to go after your dreams in 2017.
ASK YOURSELF SOME TOUGH QUESTIONS
Oftentimes we unconsciously hold ourselves back from our dreams and aspiration. We allow our minds to terrify us, and we drive ourselves insane with “what if” scenarios. Ask yourself what is holding you back from chasing your dreams. Be completely honest with your answers. Afraid of failure? Judgement? Hard work? If you find that the thought of failure is what is holding you back. Throw that thought away and burn it, you can ask anyone person who has accomplished success if they experienced failure? Their answer will for certain be a strong yes. Failure is linked to success, and you are going to fail, when you go after a dream it is almost inevitable.
Now that you know failure will certainly be along your journey to your dreams. Fear should not be one of the doubts holding you back any longer. What now? Now that you know there is a considerable percentage of failure? Prepare yourself for failure however don’t let it hold you back, let it incline you forward. Let it inspire you and motivate you to work even harder. If you are able to carry on while not giving up, no one will ever be able to call you a failure.
” Be careful what you water your dreams with. Water them with worry and fear and you will produce weeds that choke the life from your dream. Water them with optimism and solutions and you will cultivate success. Always be on the lookout for ways to turn a problem into an opportunity for success. Always be on the lookout for ways to nurture your dream.” – Laozi
YOUR PERSPECTIVE & ATTITUDE
If your attitude is negative, and you find yourself saying things like “I’ll never do this because *insert excuse, or I’ll never get this opportunity because *insert complaint. Your attitude immediately needs to change. No matter how small or grand your dreams are possessing a sour attitude will never get you anywhere.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE/ TALK ABOUT YOUR DREAMS
Try to make time to meet up with other people working toward their dreams as well, positive people who help to inspire you. Discuss things that you want to achieve, bounce ideas off of each other. When you have loving, supportive, loyal individuals believing in you. You begin to believe in yourself even more than you ever have.
STOP COMPARING YOURSELF
Every single person has their own burdens too bare. Whether we are chasing our dreams, or just trying to make it through the day. Our journey through life is ours alone, uniquely made for us. You will find yourself miserable when you compare yourself to others, and their success. Focus own your happiness and your goals. Instead of being envious, be inspired knowing you can get there to.
” Try not to feel jealous about things, or people or places. It’s toxic. Just keep living. You will find your happiness.”- Unknown
SELF-MOTIVATION & REGULATION
Being self-motivated can be difficult, sometimes it can means taking the added step, accomplishing things when you don’t necessarily have the desire to. It means working harder than you ever have. It means developing new habits, so your unfavorable old habits don’t drag you down.
If you are someone who struggles with discipline, create habits that are going to help you get things done. Write down your goals, put reminders on your cell phone, purchase a planner, get someone to hold you accountable. Creating discipline for yourself is a key component to chasing your dreams. When we create goals discipline is what carries us to actually accomplish them. Anyone can write down a goal, and SAY they are going to get it done. It’s the self-motivated people, that don’t use excuses that are driven to reach their dreams.
Vision board are influential forces in chasing your dreams. I have a whole post on how to make them, and what they do here.
GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
It’s terrifying to do things you’ve never done before, to step out of your comfort zone. As much anxiety that I have experienced throughout the years, trying something new. I have experienced just as much growth from trying unfamiliar things. As humans we love to be comfortable, we love to stay in our box of comfort. When we allow ourselves to be pushed by our fears, we encourage growth in our lives. There is nothing better than steping out of your comfort zone, and trying something new. At first feeling scared, brimming with anxiety. Then finally actually enjoying it feeling more inspired because of it. Anyone who has accomplished success will tell you they had to take steps out of their comfort zone to become more confident in their craft. Start with small things, then move on to more massive steps.
” When it feels scary to jump, that’s exactly when you jump. Otherwise you end up staying the same place your whole life. And that I can’t do. ” — A Most Violent Year, J.C. Chandor
Chasing your dreams is never going to be painless. As long as you pick yourself up and keep pushing forward you will surely get there! I found this quote that I absoloultly adore, that I wanted to share with you guys for going into the New Year.
” Let 2017 be the year you simply give a shit. The year you care deeply about the things you’re producing, the relationships you are curating, and the life you are building. Let it be the year you tell people how you feel, boldly and confidently. Let it be the year you show up for yourself; the year you celebrate the people who chose to stay in your life rather than lament over the ones who left. Let 2017 be the year you overwhelm yourself with feeling; the year you don’t apologize for how you shine, the year you don’t quiet the intensity of your heartbeat. Let 2017 be the year you jump, even when your legs are trembling.”- Bianca Sparacino
